About the Designer Sobral

The Designer Rezende SOBRAL

He first discovered resin over thirty years ago when he saw some Argentineans attempting to craft jewellery out of the product. Sobral became instantly intrigued with this ever so unique product and realised very quickly what potential resin could have being transformed into one of a kind, handmade exclusive jewellery.

Sobral’s enterprise skills and will to work with resin motivated him to found, in 1978, an industry in the back of a small farm in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A former artisan, combined with his natural ability to experiment with different shapes and colours his work received attention in the world of fashion very early on. In 1983 Sobral travelled to Europe, his pieces of resin jewellery very quickly conquered the European admiration and opened the way to a flow of regular exportations, making the production of Sobral known in Brazil and abroad. The sales of the company smashed the record and reached one million dollars in 1988.

Over the spectrum of thirty years Sobral went from being a small entrepreneur in Brazil to being the world famous resin jewellery designer known in over ten countries.

Resin is a non biodegradable petroleum derivative, the by product of petrol, (the waste). So in other words, a completely recycled product. Resin in its primary stages is a clear liquid. At the factory is where the resin first acquires colour and shape by adding to the clear liquid form imported Italian colourants and pigments. The now coloured liquid is then poured into moulds to allow it to set. Once the resin has set it is cut, drilled, polished and assembled. Every individual piece is hand polished which is a very long, labour intensive task. However, the end result and finish of Sobral’s jewellery clearly demonstrates the quality of this finished resin product above others.

Each cut block is different. This creates each time a unique piece in colour, shape, pattern and texture. This is the reason behind why each item of resin jewellery created by Sobral is unique which is a terrific selling point.

All Sobral resin jewellery and objects are laser inscribed with his signature for certification.

Sobral goes even further with his recycling concept by recycling damaged pieces of resin and encapsulating them into other pieces, for example in the shapes and colours of shells, turtles, ivory and amber. Such profound objects are imitations. Sobral this way helps to sustain the sources of these natural materials. Resin leftovers that are hardened in the shape of rocks are broken and utilised again, An example of this are the candle stick holders in the home ware collection. Sobral also uses many natural objects to encapsulate in the resin. An example of this is the seaweed range, seaweed from Rio de Janeiro encapsulated in the resin.

For his efforts, Sobral has won numerous awards for his eco friendly resin products to promote that if you recycle you reduce pollution and by wearing his incredibly funky, eco friendly jewellery you are helping the environment. Sobral has also won a number of fashion awards:
